Surprisingly, I haven't seen any mention of him on HOD. I'm sure you've all heard him, so I'm guessing it's just because no one's a fan.

He's quickly becoming one of my favorite players. Unfortunately, his stuff is quite hard to get a hold of. I have the 98 MD Fest Sunday video with him on it (because I couldn't find the one with only him anywhere) and 4 albums on which he plays. Incase you are interested, those albums are:

Vienna Art Orchestra - Artistry in Rhythm
The Intergalactic Maiden Ballet (featuring John Zorn) - Square Dance
David Fiuczynski/John Medeski - Lunar Crush
Screaming Headless Torsos - 1995

If anybody is interested in the IMB album, I can send it to you on AIM, seeing as how it is nearly impossible to find.

But just incase . . . is anybody a fan? (I know Bozzio is) What do you guys think of him?

SHT is one of my favorite albums of all time. He's also on half of Lunar Crush by Fuze and John Medeski. (Gene Lake on the other half)

JoJo is bad for sure! I'd like to check out that Vienna album. I saw a clip on drummerworld of him on that gig and it looked pretty good.

Unfortunately, he seems to be very low profile lately. I know he was working on Nerve but it seems like that's been at least 4-5 years and I haven't seen an album.

Very underrated indeed, especially with the mentions of Thomas Lang as one of europe's main players in today's scene. I said it before and i'll say again, for me JoJo is in that "league", heck if we're solely basing ourselves in musicality then JoJo pretty much runs the table with Thomas from what i've heard so far.(John Wetton/Conrad Extravaganza)compared to JoJo's output.

It's all about exposure at the end, Thomas is become hip with the Meinl "Extreme" Thing, he's the posterboy for Sonor'd Giant Step Pedals, signature sticks from Vic Firth(have u seen the latest MD mags), and has a video for Hudson coming out.

On the other hand JoJo is more "underground". yes he DOES have endorsements and signature products, but he's not in your face all the time and most of the magazines seem to have forgotten about him.

I've seen his video and think he's great. Wish I could play like that. I'd be happy just to twirl sticks as well as he does.

which video the MD one or the Sabian Promo?

Like I said he has his Signature Cymbals from Sabian(Fierce Crash/Ride) and they come with a Video on purchase which features JoJo in sum clips, doing the Moeller thing and sum cymbal solo. I already have the ride and plan on getting the crashes for Christmas.

Not that I'm a clone or a wannabe, but I guess my playing reflects with that equipment, Bozzio's chimes and inverted cymbals, and JoJo's love for thin-trashy/splashy crash cymbals.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I've been so confused lately on WHO plays on Lunar Crush, but I think I've finally got it. From JoJo's site (I guess just updated again):

"NOTE: some pin head at Gramavision messed up the credits on the CD booklet. Besides the songs which are correctly credited to Jojo, he also plays drums on "Quest", "Freelance Brown"and "Lilies that fester...".These songs are incorrectly credited to Gene Lake. This record got quoted as "Record of the Month" in Modern Drummer Magazine Sept. 94. "

I KNEW he played on "Quest" . . . it's just so JoJo.

I saw the video in a music store one day. My apologies, Bozzio, I don't recall the name of the tape. But I never forget a great drummer (or a pretty girl's name!)

I dig SHT alot. 'Lunar Crush' also kills as well as the Modern Drummer festival tape. I remember hearing something about the Vienna Art Orchestra Artistry in Rhythm in MD. Does anyone know which issue that was?

Glad you made this thread. I saw him at NAMM sitting next to Steve Smith and had no idea. Can you burn me a CD of his tunes? I can make a trade for some good stuff.

Email me privately.

hey folks!
I just saw JOJO at Montreal drumfest and last night at his own clinic... incredible! I'll post a review as soon as I collect my thoughts.
